Project 2: Automating the Western Blotting System

Problem Statement: The genetics department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison wants to partially automate the process of Western Blotting. The problem with the current process is that it is too time-consuming, and the department cannot afford the current automated products on the market. Our team plans to create a device that incubates and washes the membrane with minimal hands-on labor and a budget of $100.

  1. For your presentation, it would have been helpful to have had pictures of your designs next to the pros/cons lists. Otherwise, great job.

The progress report looked great. Bullet points were easy to follow. Expand on project difficulties. Note who is team leader/communicator/ect. I know you don't have any expenses yet but give an estimate of some material prices.

Focus next week: Consolidate your final design idea. Maybe make some small proof of concept examples to see how well the idea(s) will work. I know you guys have a difficult project but it seems that every talk with the client helps. Continue to communicate with him as much as possible.

  2. Your poster looked great with the solid works designs on it. Keep on working on them so it can be a valuable visual for your final presentation and help you with the fabrication process. I was listening to you guys explain your poster and it seemed that you all understood the direction your project was headed towards and you all could explain the design well.
