Project 1: Design Low-Cost Calming Space

Problem Statement:  Our project focuses on Juelz, a student with autism a Lowell elementary school, the problem is that, due to Juelz’s daily overstimulation, the school has asked our team to design and fabricate a safe, calming enclosure. Our group plans to construct a house-like structure that provides a comfortable environment tailored to Juelz’s specific needs within our budget of $100.

  1. Food for thought:
Really start pondering what clamps you will be needing to attach your walls to the frame. Some people could start designing the project on solidworks or some cad program. This will make you guys finalize your design and have to really solve this/similiar final design issues before you start ordering all your parts.

Think about alternatives to the foam noodles or if it is a concern of him picking those apart.

Double check that your client fully understands the design since your last talk was rushed.

  2. We have read the progress report from your team. Excellent job done!

Good format at top, included all names and dates

Assignment goals from previous week are fairly detailed

Summary of Design accomplishments, very clear

    Difficulties:
Very good statements, comprehensive and very informative
Clarified all challenges that you guys have encountered.(One important thing about being engineers is to recognize and face challenges)
While there is room for improvement as well:
    -be more concise
-be more organized (like using bullet points)
    e.g.
    • clients are hard to reach or contact by emails
    • Challenges presented when try to determine dimensions of Juelz’s enclosure. due to............
    • ....................
(another suggestion, try to give a possible and reasonable solution)
