Project 3: Standing Desk

Problem Statement:  Our client, Kevin Rolnick, biology graduate from UW-Madison, has experienced discomfort sitting down for long periods of time while studying in the library. Research has found that sedentary behavior can lead to risk of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and musculoskeletal problems. Our group will fabricate a desk where students are able to study while standing in order to prevent these problems. In addition, the desk must be adjustable, durable, and attractive while maintaining a budget of $100.

  1. Your Progress Report seemed to have been done very quickly. The difficulties section had nothing underneath the heading. There were numerous grammatical and formatting mistakes. You didn't even have all your team members listed. Also, the activities table had empty rows. Add an expense section next time even if it is only talking about projected costs of materials.

The Gantt chart was very good. We understand you had a lot with this and the presentation though.

Please spend more time in the future just doing a simple check over the report and making sure it looks professional. Review the example report more closely.

  2. Also, I was thinking... have you guys worried about how to get your project into the library's third floor? Have you measured the doorways/elevator? How easy is this to disassemble and assemble (in a library)?

  4. For the poster session, the poster looked well. Make sure to have the background (low ink with the choppy lines) figured out a little sooner. It was interesting that there was another group doing a very similar project. You should think of checking in with them and seeing how their fabrication processing is doing. Also, try to post some design idea pictures/contribute to the blog as the other groups have.
